Our white winter combined with a very late spring in the Okanagan may make for an interesting May and June as the creeks, rivers and lakes attempt to handle the high water volume. The Central Okanagan’s emergency response centre said there had been localized flood and record creek flows in the area including Kelowna. Mission Creek reached a record flow rate overnight on Wednesday, the centre said, and dikes, sand bags and tiger dams were able to contain the flow.
Kelowna is open for business as usual and the lake is below full volume. However, some of our creeks are at very high levels and some localized flooding has occurred. Our realTopia vacation resorts and homes are not expected to be affected, but our Guests should carefully plan their routes to and from Kelowna. Some highways are directly affected by BC flood waters. Drivers can continue to check DriveBC.ca for updates.
